How to Set Up Your Restaurant Menu in Billing Software
A well-organised menu makes billing faster and your reports clearer. A messy one slows every order. Spend an hour on this and it pays back every day.
Start with categories
Group items the way guests think: starters, main course, breads, rice, desserts, beverages. Keep the number of categories small enough to fit on one row of buttons.
Name items clearly
Use the name your staff and guests already use. Avoid very long names; put detail in the description or options instead.
Use options instead of duplicate items
Half and full plates, sizes, extra toppings and spice level are options on one item - not separate items. This keeps the menu short and your item reports accurate.
Set prices and tax once
Enter the price and tax category for each item. When a price changes, update it in one place and every bill uses the new value.
Mark what is not available
When an item runs out, switch it off so waiters and QR guests cannot order it. This avoids awkward conversations at the table.
Add photos and descriptions for QR ordering
If guests will order from their phone, a short description and a good photo help them choose - and often choose more.
